MONDELEZ KINH DO VIETNAM INSPIRES VIETNAMESE STUDENTS TO “GO GREEN”
FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVING AND DEVELOPMENT

Vietnam, December 10th, 2020 – As many people worldwide are facing the dire consequences of climate change, our society needs eco-innovation and a sustainable focus more than ever before. Unwavering efforts underway to reduce emissions and wastes are one way to create a sustainable future for new generations. Still, we have an even better tool at our fingertips — teaching students how to live sustainably.

The annual "Joy Schools" program, which aims to create sustainable growth for students in schools through educational programs, has been taking place in Vietnam since 2017. This year, on December 4th, 2020, with the theme "Go Green," the program went to Tran Quoc Toan and Binh Thuan primary schools in Binh Duong with over 3,000 students to participate. The program gets the collaboration of the Provincial Department of Education & Training and Department of Science & Technology. The events plan to continue at two other primary schools, Cam Xa and Phung Chi Kien, in Hung Yen province by the end of December 2020, to attract over 1,300 students.

Since the first launch of this "Joy schools" program in Vietnam in 2017, more than 500 employees have contributed nearly 2,000 volunteer hours to provide environmental advocacy, nutrition education, active lifestyle, and access to fresh food for primary students through countless joyous moments.

At the highlight of this year's events, Mondelez Kinh Do handed over 160 laptops to the schools' headmasters. It is an effort to provide students access to technology and online learning resources for high-quality learning opportunities and future growth.

With the theme "Go Green," Mondelez Kinh Do creates a fun-learning playground with numerous exciting activities that led students through four vital Green activities, including Green Educational Games and Workshops, Green Creativity, and especially Green Tree, where students together created a tree with hand leaves as a promise, a commitment to join hands in protecting the environment.

At each activity, students get an understanding of the importance of reducing and separating wastes and how to recycle in everyday life through fun interactive games and real experiences. They were to watch documentary videos to enhance awareness of the increasing risk of plastic waste in Vietnam. Besides, volunteers energized kids with craft-making projects and growing trees from recycled plastic bottles that they can use to decorate homes and classrooms.

"As one of the leading food companies in Vietnam, Mondelez Kinh Do is committed to playing a leading role in environmental impact reduction and sustainable development efforts. Through the "Joy Schools" program, we are proud to provide paths for students to learn about reducing plastic waste and sustainable living, thereby inspiring communities to care for the sustainable development of the world we live in," said Ms. Bùi Đặng Duyên Mai, Mondelez Kinh Do Country Manager, Corporate and Government Affairs, Vietnam.

Ever since entering the Vietnam market, Mondelez Kinh Do has stepped up to make their snacks the right way to preserve the planet and meet consumers' aspirations every day. To make an end-to-end positive impact on the world and the communities, Mondelez Kinh Do continues to simplify and use innovative packaging materials to facilitate recycling in existing infrastructure. The company has achieved a recycling rate of 96% for organic waste while 82% for inorganic waste, the total amount of garbage decreased 51% (2020 vs. 2015) and achieved 100% recyclable and labeled with recycling information 2025.

Recently, Mondelez Kinh Do was honorably awarded AmCham CSR Awards for best CSR practices for three consecutive years (2018, 2019, 2020) for its unwavering efforts to grow a green, healthy community with impactful activities. The company was honored with the "2020 Community Impact Achievement" Award by the AmCham Vietnam and named on Binh Duong Green Book in 2020.
